Art Appreciation
A one-semester course that fulfills part of the fine arts requirement for graduation. This course is offered to all juniors with no prerequisites. The course presents several aspects of Art including appreciation, history and supplemental hands-on projects. Students are introduced to composition and color theory, Meso-America, Ancient Greece, the Italian Renaissance, and the 20th Century. For each aspect of Art History there is a complimentary hands-on project (such as one point perspective for the Renaissance).

Art I (Studio)
This one-semester class is offered to seniors with no prerequisites. It fulfills part of the one credit required in Fine Arts for graduation.

The students are given the opportunity to create original artwork through a variety of media and seven projects which emphasize discipline-based skills. The students develop skills in drawing and color theory, while enhancing aesthetic judgment through exposure to art history.

AP Art History
This year-long college course taught for advanced placement credit covers the entire western world of Art History from pre-history to the 21st Century. Knowledge of art styles, artists, materials, cultures, religions and politics are examined in an attempt to understand the various cultures that have produced the art. Additionally, we study non-European cultures of the Ancient Near East, Egypt, Islam and Africa.

Writing is a large component of the course along with daily articulation of the analysis of art pieces. A museum trip to Houston takes place very close to the national exam time as final preparation for the national test. The students are able to see first hand, art from all the units studied in addition to a Byzantine Chapel and the contemporary Rothko Chapel.

Prerequisite: B in History with the recommendation of the History Teacher.
